premature.pining.pangs…pathetic?…

It has been a solid fifty seven hours since departing from warming walls of Goodwin-Kirk hall, room four forty three for the Thanksgiving holiday. I have already found myself longing for the comfort of my darling roommates. Though the unyielding blare of the television and Brittany’s nocturnal tendencies are often trying on my patience, the familiarity of these annoyances is comforting.
Nichole’s strip teases to tunes from the Sound of Music are, for lack of better words, uplifting (though her obsession with passing gas on people is certainly not missed). Emma is amusing by nature: the contradiction of her Midwestern charm, ghetto- tendencies (including, but certainly not limited to, dancing, hand gestures and general demeanor), and ghoulish pale skin is quite humorous.
And then there is my “touchstone”, Britt Blowers. She can out drink you (when it comes to soy chai lattes), out dance you, and out tan you (her most recent classification was “Puerto Rican”). She is also my supreme confidant regarding the three B’s as well as the happenings and players of prior nights. But more important than our daily tête-à-tête are our extended conversations (usually held during snuggle-sessions in Britt’s heap of pillows) regarding future global excursions. While the various port cities and countries that the MV Explorer will call on are quite different from London, we share similar fears and excitements. Next semester Britt will be in Britain and I… I will be just about everywhere else.
Disclaimer to all future roommates: the darling DGs of 443 have raised the bar. Significantly.

November 20, 2006 at 3:51 am | In Uncategorized | Leave a CommentIn preparation for traveling abroad, I have often found myself absolutely buried under mounds of paperwork. Between passport forms, visa applications, course registrations, and health documents, “overwhelming” barely touches the surface of my current stress-level. Nine passport-size photos later, I am nearing completion of these proceedings (however I’m still contemplating the Embassy of India’s repeated inquiries as to my nationality at birth, as compared to my current nationality, which may be quite different than my other past nationalities). Unless you want to witness hyperventalation, don’t stir the topic of financing into conversation….
My saving mantra has been something like “I will soon be a world traveler. I will soon be a world traveler.”
Begin: Adventure
November 15, 2006 at 7:00 am | In A Beginning | Leave a CommentEverything must have a beginning. Though it may seem like this is where the journey begins, do not be fooled by the sudden appearance of text on a page… the journey began quite some time ago. You were just not present to witness its start. Do not fear for this is not an exclusive story. All are invited to join at will. While you may never experience the adventure for yourself, your attention is requested… enter the realm of the mental traveler.
